Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi - Phir Milenge Chalte Chalte / German Subtitle / [2008]I just wanted to cry at how adorable he was. This was some of his most honest acting. His alias "Raj" was sort of that, but you kept believing it was Surinder in disguise.
I used to think they were just silly dance films, but then I started watching them. These films "render our grief and happiness on screen and give us a golden reason to live" stole that from "Billu Barber".
They make me feel so happy, and have the power to make you believe in true love, happy endings, heartache, family, God, being ridiculous, singing and dancing.
In this film a shy man, suddenly marries the daughter of his old professor after her fiancee and father die.
She is all alone in the world and the shy man is the only person she knows. He takes her to his home to the surprise of all his friends.
Thinking he only reminds her of her grief, he allows her to attend a dance competition. At first, he disguises himself to watch her from a far.
Yet fate steps in and he becomes her partner. In his disguise he acts completely different than himself.
It's all fun until, he realizes she is falling in love with his alter ego. He is loosing his wife to himself! Problems are eventually resolved with a happy ending.
There are some great songs and dancing, alone with a tribute to the history of Bollywood films. SRK is so convincing in playing the role of two different people.
The leading lady plays her role with a gentle sincerity which becomes the heart of the film. Overall, an enchanting romantic comedy worth watching.
Two thumbs up for this charming film. It gently pokes fun at the stereotypes of its own genre while still nailing classic Bollywood spectacle.
An effervescent bride is shocked on her wedding day when her groom and his parents are killed in a bus crash on the way to the ceremony.
Her father is so distraught he has a heart attack, and on his deathbed he asks his daughter to marry his friend, a boring, shy but steady man who works at a desk job that he knows will provide for his daughter.
She agrees but says she will never love again. They live in separate sections of his large house, and he can tell she is consumed with sorrow, and pays for her to take group dance lessons to cheer her up.
He then asks his best friend, a loudmouth barber, for fashion advice. Decked out in tight new clothes, a fresh haircut, he hides in the background to watch her dance.
But when the group dance is split up into partners, he is reluctantly pulled onto the dance floor to partner up. She does not recognize him and he puts on a new name and a new persona Back at home, he is still his original self Whom will she choose?
The most surprising conclusion of this "Walter Mitty"-type story, is what the principal characters finally come to understand the definition of love.
Love is seeing God in the other person. A profound truth wrapped up in a silly musical, with gorgeous costumes, and traditional values. And it's free on Amazon prime!

Serious, nerdy Suri fell in love with her at first sight, but Taani tells him she'll never be able to love him, nor be happy and light-hearted again.
Suri takes on the role of a fun-loving Raj in her dancing class, hoping to make her laugh again, and hoping to use Raj to help Taani fall in love with Suri.
Things don't work as Suri had hoped, and he sees his chance of happiness with Taani become slim. In this romantic drama, Khan plays an average man as Suri, and brash and loud as Raj, neither the handsome or charming character that is his usual role.
This he does suprisingly well. Sharma, in her first role, was excellent, and fully believable in her emotions. While the songs and choreography were average, the cinematography, locations, and sets were lovely.
I was conflicted as to the credibility of Taani's reaction to the truth, but otherwise found this to be a sweet and enjoyable film with a beautiful message, celebrating unselfish love.
First of all I have to admit to being an unabashed past middle age anglo-American fan of Shah Rukh Khan! I have watched about forty of his films which is about half of his body of work.
So I have seen the good, the bad and the ugly! And yes he does sometimes over act. And yes he can be over the top emotional at times, but as a line in a Hindi movie put it " no one does a love story like Shah Rukh Khan!
I love how he is the ultimate performer and show off, never afraid to play the dorky Suni or the exaggerated, over the top character of Raj. For me it is just clean entertainment plain and simple.
