Talk about single parent, this is about a single grandpa taking care of his little grandson and granddaughter all by his lonesome self.
This is a family without much money. For this grandpa, his son married an Indonesian woman. Grandpa found out that his son's wife stole the money without permission and somehow the money is all gone.
So, grandpa kicks out the daughter-in-law. The family can't afford meat, so they only eat vegetables. Grandpa can't afford socks, so he staples them when there are holes.
That's how poor they are, but they manage as a family. The grandson, not knowing the value of money, always want to eat pork chops and have expensive toys.
Though the kids want things we take for granted, he is still a really good kid. He's never stolen anything or done anything with bad intentions.
He hates his grandpa because he recalls seeing grandpa throwing his mother out and his grandpa never can buy the nice things in life that other kids seem to have at school.
Grandpa teaches the kid good values, but the boy doesn't see the usefulness of these values, especially when other kids tease him about his mother being a thief and leaving him.
Over time, grandpa regrets what he did to his grandson when he threw the kid's mother out of the house, especially now that he is no longer in a good condition to care for the kids.
Will he find her? Will the kid ever learn to love his grandpa? Will the kid forgive grandpa? Will the family re-unite?
The actors are all great in this movie, especially the two little kids. The director did a great job in telling the story.
The movie teaches people about regrets, love, compassion, forgiveness, hardship, sacrifice, overcome harassment, friendship, responsibilities and most of all the meaning of family.
For some, you will cry watching this movie, but there are parts when you will feel joy and other emotions. Great movie! After his son's passing, the grandfather had sent away his daughter-in-law due to a misunderstanding.
The grandson and granddaughter love their grandfather and dearly misses their mother. This movie is not complex and the drama is kept to a minimum; fine cast and solid ending.
Cannot ask for a better movie. This movie made me cried almost the entire movie. I cried throughout the entire movie. The little boy and the senior male lead were excellent.
The scene showing the little boy standing in the middle of the street pouring his heart out was too much for me. Watch with plenty of Kleenex in your posession.
This warm movie also makes us think about what is the most important in our lives and multicultural family. Highly recommend to watch with your family!
